Ideas for a sequel began after the release of Black Panther in February 2018. Coogler negotiated to return as director in the following months, and Marvel Studios officially confirmed the sequel’s development in mid-2019. Plans for the film changed in August 2020 when Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman died from colon cancer, with Marvel choosing not to recast his role of T’Challa. Other main cast members from the first film were confirmed to return by that November, and the title was announced in May 2021. Production began in late June 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia, and filming will also occur in Worcester, Massachusetts.

No 02: The Flash

Development of a film based on the Flash began by 2004, with multiple writers and directors attached to the project through 2014. The film was then redeveloped as a part of the DCEU, with Miller cast as the title character. Multiple directors were attached to the film over the following years, with Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa, and the duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein each departing the project due to creative differences. Muschietti and Hodson joined the film in July 2019, and pre-production began in January 2020. The film is influenced by the comic book storyline Flashpoint, featuring multiple DC Comics characters including Affleck and Keaton as different versions of Batman. Filming began in April 2021 at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, in England.

No 04: Black Adam

AIn his introduction story, Black Adam is said to be an Egyptian adult already known as Teth-Adam to those around him when the ancient wizard Shazam chooses him to be a champion. By shouting the wizard’s name, Teth-Adam draws power from a collection of deities and becomes a superhuman warrior.

No 05: The Batman

In 2014, Ben Affleck was set to direct, produce, co-write, and star in a new Batman film set within the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), but he stepped down as writer and director in January 2017. Reeves took over as director and co-writer, reworking the story to focus on a younger Batman and emphasize the detective side of the character. Affleck left the project in January 2019, and Pattinson was cast in his place that May. The film’s connections to the DCEU were removed, with the film now set on “Earth-2” within the DC Films multiverse. Further casting took place by the end of 2019, and principal photography began in London in January 2020. Production was suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but resumed in September. Exterior shots were filmed in Chicago, and filming concluded in March 2021.
